The Property Ombudsman comments on the MHCLG announcement professionalising the estate agent market

Katrine Sporle, The Property Ombudsman, comments on the MHCLG announcement on will professionalising the estate agent market:

“We welcome the news the Government is introducing measures to professionalise the estate agent market. Requiring agents to hold a professional qualification and be transparent about any referral fees they receive should go a long way to raise standards in the industry and stamp out poor practice.

“It is also excellent news that Government will produce ‘How to Buy’ and ‘How to Sell’ guides. Any steps to empower the consumer to better understand the process, as well as making sure that they know which questions to ask and what to expect when they buy or sell a home will help with avoiding things going wrong in the first place.”
