Successful launch for first legal technology conference for the north of England

The first legal technology conference for the north of England launched in Sheffield last week, putting the city on the map for tech start-ups and innovative law firms.

The sold-out event – Legal Technology North – attracted top industry speakers as well as delegates from all over the country. Thought-provoking presentations explored hot topics such as the future of artificial intelligence in the law and the influence of mobile apps.

Conference co-organiser Matt Pennington of Sheffield tech firm QuoteXpress commented:

“The aim was to get tech experts together with lawyers to generate new ideas to improve both the services law firms offer and access to those services. Technology can do so much to bring legal advice to people who would never normally consider approaching a lawyer for help.  The hands-on workshops had an incredible amount of energy and some of the ideas they produced have real potential to be developed further.”

Kollider, the Sheffield-based innovation platform, co-hosted the conference and will be providing participants with the opportunity to develop their ideas further at their city centre incubation project.

Conference participant, Callum Murray, of tech firm Amiqus ID, said the event was a real success:

“There was an excellent mixture of content and great opportunities to get together with interesting people from many different sectors. We’ve had some really valuable discussions and it’s great that this kind of event happened in the north of England, not in London.”

Harvey Harding of Sheffield law firm PM Property Lawyers and conference co-organiser, added:

“To have tech firms, AI experts, cyber security experts and legal tech thought leaders talking to lawyers about the challenges they face day to day was simply fantastic. There is so much potential for technology to revolutionise the way we practice law and the way consumers use legal services and I think we tapped into that today. I am delighted that Sheffield was the venue for such an innovative event and I’m really looking forward to an even bigger event in 2019.”
