Rightmove reveals its busiest date of 2018

Rightmove has revealed which day was its busiest in 2018 in terms of page views.

It says February 19 was the date, with page views exceeding 40m.

Rightmove’s assessment of 2018 reveals that its busiest day of each week was a Tuesday and the busiest time of day to search properties was at 8pm.

The portal also says that – predictably – traffic dipped at the time of big events such as the Royal Wedding and key World Cup matches.

Bristol was the most searched-for place outside of London; York was second and Manchester third, while Glasgow rocketed from outside the top 10 in 2017 to become the fourth most-searched area for buyers last year.

Miles Shipside, Rightmove’s property expert, says: “One reason why people may be looking to move to Bristol is because house prices are substantially cheaper than in other parts of the country, most notably London and the south east.

“But it is also one of the main financial hubs outside London, and the quality of life in that part of the world is great. You can be at the beach or in the countryside within half an hour of leaving the city.”

Livingston in West Lothian reported the fastest sales in 2018 according to Rightmove – just 25 days compared to an all-Britain national average of 61 days. The measure was from when the property was first listed on Rightmove to it being marked by agents as ‘under offer’ or ‘sold subject to contract’.

The portal says Newport in Wales tops the charts for homes increasing in value the most, with the average asking price of a property rising by 9.8 per cent from £167,333 to £183,652.

That’s compared with a British national average annual rise of around 1.4 per cent.

A few days ago Rightmove tweeted that it enjoyed 25,147,701 pages viewed on Boxing Day and a Daily Mail story suggested that over two million people trawled through multiple Rightmove listings that day.
