Let’s get talking: Collyer Bristow proud to partner with construction charity Mates in Mind

Property and construction law firm Collyer Bristow has today announced a partnership with the construction industry mental health charity Mates in Mind.

The partnership will see Collyer Bristow actively support the charity, promoting its activity amongst staff and clients, culminating with a seminar and panel discussion for clients and intermediaries in the construction industry in the spring of 2019.  The partnership will support Mates in Mind ‘Let’s get talking’ campaign.

Mates in Mind is a registered charity that raises awareness, addresses the stigma of poor mental health and improves positive mental wellbeing in the UK construction industry.  Mates in Mind supports construction companies in creating, communicating and delivering a complete approach to mental wellbeing.

Since launching to construction and construction-related industries in September 2017, the charity had a target or reaching 100,000 people within the industry by 2018, but they have surpassed this number reaching more than 150,00 people to date.  In the last 12 months, Mates in Mind has successfully delivered awareness and training programs directly to almost 27,750 individuals.

Collyer Bristow has a 25-strong property and construction team that works alongside housebuilders, commercial developers, contractors, surveyors, architects, and funders.  Health and well-being of staff is a priority for the firm as it grows and expands.

Stephen Haynes, Head of Programme, Mates in Mind said:

“The construction industry remains dominated by men and the stigma surrounding mental ill-health continues to be a barrier to many seeking help and support.  It represents a significant cost to the industry and can have a devastating impact on individual’s lives.  We are delighted to have Collyer Bristow support Mates in Mind and look forward to working with them.”

Catrin Rees, a Senior Associate in the Construction team at Collyer Bristow said:

“Mental ill-health in the workplace is much better understood and supported today than a decade ago, yet still the stigma remains and even more so in the male-dominated construction industry.  Mates in Mind is doing fantastic work and we are thrilled to support them.”
