Government announcement to “Stay at Home” and house purchases

Following the Government’s instruction to “stay at home”, the Council for Licensed Conveyancers comments on the impact for house purchases.

As a result of the Government’s introduction (23 March 2020) of three new measures

  1. Requiring people to stay at home, except for very limited purposes
  2. Closing non-essential shops and community spaces
  3. Stopping all gatherings of more than two people in public

we are in urgent discussion with the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government and other stakeholders as to whether home sales and purchases are essential transactions that will be able to continue.

This would need to include all associated travel and services such as removals.

We will keep this site updated as we are able to report more.

Please also see our FAQs which will be updated when we have further information.

We will be in contact with CLC Regulated Practices when we have more information.
