Chester solicitor gears up to compete in World Triathlon Grand Final

Twenty-six-year-old Stephanie King from Chester law firm Aaron & Partners successfully juggles her legal career with over 20 hours of triathlon training per week

A budding solicitor from Chester is preparing to leave her day job behind after qualifying to represent Great Britain in the World Triathlon Grand Final on Australia’s Gold Coast.

Stephanie King, a Real Estate solicitor at Chester law firm Aaron & Partners, is set to take part in the competition alongside more than 5,000 of the world’s best elite and age group triathletes from 46 countries around the world.

She’ll make the 22-hour journey to Queensland for what will be the final race of the 2018 triathlon season, taking place between 12-16 September.

The twenty-six-year-old will be in good company too, joining Olympian brothers Alistair and Jonathan Brownlee as part of the Great Britain squad, as well as Vicki Holland and Jodie Stimpson.

“For an amateur triathlete like me, going to the World Triathlon Grand Final is a dream come true,” said Steph.

“It’s representing Great Britain on the biggest stage possible and I’ve been training hard to make sure I’m in the best possible shape to give it my all.

“I absolutely love my job as a Real Estate solicitor and I’ve worked really hard to get my career off the ground, but I’m really passionate about triathlon too. I train about 20 hours a week before and after work, and occasionally during lunchtimes!

“Everyone at Aaron & Partners has been really supportive and although it can be tough juggling my training schedule with work commitments, I’ve found that exercise really helps me to focus when I’m in the office.”

Steph successfully juggles six days of intense triathlon training per week with her full-time job, where she deals with all aspects of Commercial Property at the Top 200 law firm.

As part of the triathlon, she’ll be taking on a 1.5k swim, a 40k bike ride and a 10k run in warm conditions, with the temperature expected to be around 29 degrees Celsius on Australia’s Gold Coast.

“I’m relishing the challenge but I’m under no illusions that it’s going to be tough,” added Steph. “The bike is probably my strongest discipline in the triathlon and that’s because I’ve been doing it longer than the other two – I’ve only really been doing triathlons for the last three years.

As part of Steph’s preparations, she’s taken part in dozens of events including the London Marathon, the Chester Deva Triathlon and the Ironman Challenge. She qualified for the World Triathlon Finals after coming 14th in the European Triathlon Union qualifier in Estonia earlier this year.

When she arrives in Australia, she’ll link up with a Great Britain team featuring 34 elite athletes and 350 amateur athletes in different age categories.

As well as support from the team at Aaron and Partners, Steph secured sponsorship from Wrexham-based copy firm Rawson Digital. The business, which also has an office in Y Felinheli, near Bangor, supplies and maintains photocopiers and printers to companies across North Wales, the North West and beyond.

Vaughn Rawson, Managing Director for Rawson Digital, said:

“Steph has achieved so much this year with making it to the European and now the World Championship events. It has made us feel very proud to be one of her sponsors and the whole Rawson Digital team wishes her all the very best for her trip to the Gold Coast.

“She’s an inspirational young woman who has worked very hard to earn her place at these high-profile competitions and we all admire her determination.”
