The Society of Licensed Conveyancers Announces Programme for Annual Conference 2025

Commonhold, Mental Health, and AI in Conveyancing Take Centre Stage

The Society of Licensed Conveyancers (SLC) is delighted to unveil the full programme for its Annual Conference 2025, a must-attend event for property professionals across the UK. Taking place at Reach Events in Derby, the Conference promises a day of expert insights, lively panel discussions, and practical CPD – all free of charge for members.

The event, once again hosted by the respected property expert Kate Faulkner OBE, will open with a keynote focus on Commonhold – one of the most topical issues in property law reform. Speakers include Matt Prior from the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG), who will provide an update from the government’s perspective.

A special panel session on Commonhold will follow, featuring high-profile industry voices:

  • Paul Broadhead, Building Societies Association
  • Ed Donne, Howden
  • John Marr, UK Finance
  • Ian Quayle, IQ Legal Training
  • Matt Prior, MHCLG
Simon Law, Chairperson of the Society of Licensed Conveyancers, commented:

“This year’s programme addresses the pressing issues and innovations reshaping our profession. Commonhold remains a critical area of reform, and we’re proud to bring together leading experts who can give attendees real-world insights into its future. We’ve built a line-up that is informative, engaging, and interactive – a true CPD opportunity for all conveyancers.”

The morning sessions will also include a vital session on Mental Health and Wellbeing led by Hannah Knowles from The Art of Brilliance, ensuring that personal wellbeing remains part of the professional conversation.

In the afternoon, attention will turn to technology with a focus on AI in Conveyancing. Speakers include:

  • Uwais Iqbal, Simplexico
  • Catherine Drennan, Council for Licensed Conveyancers (CLC), offering a regulatory perspective on AI adoption

A dedicated Digital Signatures panel will also explore the evolving role of e-signatures in the legal process. Panellists include:

  • Harbinder Gill, HM Land Registry
  • Ron Thickett, Building Societies Association
  • John Marr, UK Finance

Ian Quayle from IQ Legal Training will return with a popular session on topical legal updates, bringing clarity to recent changes and developments.

Breakout sessions—always a highlight of the conference—will run again this year, covering:

  • Non-Standard Sales – led by John E Jones
  • Planning & Building Control: New Rules and New Builds – led by Siobhan Connelly
  • Inspections and ID Verification – presented by the Council for Licensed Conveyancers (CLC)
Simon Law added:

“We’re thrilled to offer such a diverse programme. Whether you’re interested in legal reform, emerging technologies, or compliance, there’s something for every conveyancer. And, as always, we aim to foster not just learning but community within the profession.”

The conference is entirely free of charge for all members, including refreshments and lunch throughout the day. Conveyancing practitioners who are not members can still purchase a ticket to attend. Delegates are warmly invited to stay for the informal post-conference dinner and drinks reception, complete with entertainment, hosted at Pride Park Stadium.

In what has become a cherished tradition, the dinner will once again feature a special presentation ceremony to welcome newly qualified Licensed Conveyancers to the profession. All newly qualified professionals are strongly encouraged to attend and be recognised as part of this celebration.
