Home stager reveals interior secrets to sell your home quickly

Home staging expert Jane Lee reveals interior secrets to sell your home quickly with 8 easy updates to make the home look more expensive.

It’s here! Season 6 of Selling Sunset, the TV show that is filled with glamour, luxe living and statement style has finally dropped on Netflix.

The hit show, famous for its luxurious properties boasting high-end features, roomy bathrooms, walk-in wardrobes and stunning home staging has interior lovers swooning – and the properties selling for million dollar price tags.

Whilst home staging is popular in the United States, its uses are lesser known here in the UK, although it is a great way to improve the look of your home and widen its appeal, if you are looking to sell it. In fact, research by Rightmove found that staged homes secure more viewings and offers, as well as selling for 8% more than non-staged homes.

On behalf of ConservatoryLand, award-winning Home Staging Consultant, Jane Lee, explains:

“Home staging creates a look that appeals to a wide cross-section of prospective buyers, unlike interior design which reflects the personality of the current owner.

“Since most UK sellers don’t stage – either because they’re unaware, or decide not to invest – the ones who do are reaping the rewards.

“Nobody wants to splash out on somewhere they’re leaving but it’s crucial to make your property stand out from the competition and sell an aspirational lifestyle.”

Here, Jane shares 8 insider tips that are easy ways to make your property look more expensive – and attractive – to prospective buyers:

1. Make an entrance

Jane says:

“A freshly-painted front door, new house number and doormat provide that all-important great first impression.

In the hallway, chandeliers and large metallic-frame mirrors look elegant and bounce the light around.”

2. Finishing touches

Jane explains:

I find people love an excuse to upgrade their soaps, shampoos etc. to something fancier.

I recommend The White Company, Molton Brown and (every stylists’ favourite) Aesop; TK Maxx, Zara Home, John Lewis and TK Maxx are also good hunting grounds.

Fluffy white towels add to the boutique-hotel feel.”

3. The power of art

Jane recommends:

Large artwork, or a gallery wall of smaller frames, look striking while smaller pictures dotted around can be distracting, especially in the marketing photos.”

4. Rich palette

Jane suggests:

Opulent jewel shades of green, gold, blue and aubergine make wonderful accent colours for accessories and soft furnishings.”

5. Vintage finds

Jane advises:

Don’t hide an original fireplace behind a fireguard, or covered in knick-knacks.

Replace missing original features like ceiling roses, coving and dado/picture rails and add a few antiques and family treasures to make rooms feel more expensively decorated.”

6. Cosy corners

Jane says:

Vignettes give a vision of how a space could be used.

For example, create a relaxing spot by arranging an armchair, side table, lamp, throw and book in an alcove by a window.”

7. Add texture

Jane recommends:

Knitted or faux fur throws, sheepskin footstools and velvet cushions all elevate the final look to something special.

Embroidery, pompoms and tassels add a more luxe touch.”

8. Flower power

Jane finishes:

“Last but definitely not least, everybody loves the look and scent of fresh flowers so add to as many rooms as you possibly can!”
