Hart Brown’s 100 Miles for 100 Years

As part of the celebrations for its centenary year, a number of Hart Brown lawyers and family members cycled 100 miles visiting all its offices in Surrey, and raised money for its chosen charity, Woking & Sam Beare Hospice.

The chief organiser was David Wallace who came up with the idea of riding one mile for each year that Hart Brown has been in business, recruited the cyclists and spent a great deal of time planning and testing the route.  The route was designed to visit all Hart Brown’s offices – Guildford ,Godalming, Cranleigh,  Cobham and Woking, and took in Leith Hill and Box Hill,  two of the main hills from the Prudential Ride 100. Twelve riders took up the challenge, encouraged to complete part or all of the course, with five hardy souls completing the full 100 miles: David Wallace, Gareth Hodgson, Mark Wisby, Tim Otway and James Lamont. Support teams went from office to office with food and drink supplies, as well as providing an emergency back-up vehicle (which fortunately was not required). The first riders started from the Guildford Office at 7.30 am and finished in the early evening back in Guildford.

A challenging ride, completed on a particularly hot day, made their achievements even more noteworthy. The choice of Woking and Sam Beare Hospice as the charity to support through their endeavours , was a natural one, Hart Brown having often supported them in the past by rowing in their Dragon Boat Race.

Woking & Sam Beare Hospice is a charity that delivers specialist palliative care to adult patients of all ages who have life-limiting and terminal illnesses in the North West Surrey region, providing free of charge holistic care and support services both in the hospice and in homes throughout the area.
