The Law Society announces changes to CON29DW search requests

The Law Society of England and Wales announces changes to CON29DW search requests which will come into effect from 3 September 2021.

The Law Society has worked with the Drainage and Water Searches Network to create separate enquiry forms for residential and commercial properties.

CON29 forms are used in conveyancing to obtain information from local authorities.

Specifically, the CON29DW form requests key information for prospective buyers about water and sewage services.

From 3 September, this form will be rebranded as CON29DW residential and will only cover residential search reports.

The new CON29DW commercial form can be used for commercial transactions.

This change creates a standardised process that allows for questions on wayleaves and easements.

Additionally, both residential and commercial reports will continue to be checked by specialists to ensure high product quality and to avoid risk.

These updated forms will be available through third-party suppliers soon.

Links to forms, as well as further guidance and information, can be found on the Law Society’s CON29 forms page.
