From Jan-March 2017 Residential Approvals are Seeing a 9% Increase

According to latest government statistics, during the first quarter of 2017, residential planning approvals saw an increase of 9% compared to the same quarter in 2016.

The data from the Department for Communities and Local Government state that 89,500 decisions were granted, which is a total increase of 4% when paralleled with 2016.

87% of major applications were settled by district level planning authorities within 13 weeks or the agreed time.

The figure was 83% from Jan-March 2016.

Per the stats, there was a 17% rise in residential applications with 12,300.

1,700 of these were major developments and 10,600 were minor developments (8% rise).

There was a 2% fall in the number of commercial developments approved with 2,600.

There was a 2% rise in the number of applications for prior approval for permitted developments rights submitted, with a total of 9,200.

According to the stats, 1,400 of these applications were for changes to residential use.

1,000 of these being approved without going through the full planning process.

There was a 4% increase in the number of applications granted by district level planning authorities in the period from March 2016 – March 2017.

Addition, District level planning authorities have granted 50,100 decisions on residential developments, an increase of 12% in major development decision with 6,600, and a 6% increase in minor development decisions with 43,500 minor.

There was also a 1% decrease in district level planning authorities granting applications for commercial developments, with 11,200.
